The 11th Celebration of Silk was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Chairman of Project, on Saturday, the 28th of May 2022 at The Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall. The exhibition was organized in honour of the 90th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. This has been an important yearly Thai Silk signature project in collaboration with the diplomatic community in promoting cross cultural exchange.
The 11th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World 2022 project was organised to continue the Thai Silk Road journey to promote Thai Culture, Thai tradition, Thai heritage and the beauty of Thai Silk as well as encourage younger Thai generations to use more Thai fabrics and Thai Silk in their daily life. “2021 has been a challenging year for the participants of he 11th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World project as new waves of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand have caused lock downs, school closures and restrictions between provinces. However, it did not seem to have reduced the enthusiasm of the teachers and students in showcasing their talents on the world stage,” recalled Mr Edward Kiti, President and Founder of the Association of Thai Silk and Culture Promotion
This year's project saw 227 contestants submit their designs for the 3rd Next Big Silk Designer Contest, even more than the year before. More than 231 teachers with 318 fashion design students from 73 universities and vocational colleges designed and tailored uniques Thai Silk dresses and outfits for 77 embassies and 23 honourable consuls making it again 100 diplomatic participants.
